Cecil Beaton at Home – Ashcombe & Reddish

This visually stunning biographical exhibition of one of the world’s most famous fashion and portrait photographers at Salisbury Museum is just a few miles from Sir Cecil Beaton’s two Wiltshire country homes Ashcombe and Reddish House. It invokes the spirit of Beaton’s extraordinary life through the sumptuous and vibrant interiors and gardens he created at Ashcombe House from 1930-45 when he was at the centre of the ‘bright young things’, and Reddish House, which Beaton purchased in 1945 and lived in until his death in 1980.
Beaton, who was famous for creating iconic portraits and fashion photography for magazines such as American Vogue, Oscar-winning sets and costumes for films such as Gigi and My Fair Lady.
Cecil Beaton at Home provides an intimate look into Beaton’s private home life and the celebrity in-crowd of lovers, friends and acquaintances he lavishly entertained – from Rex Whistler, Truman Capote and Greta Garbo to David Hockney, Evelyn Waugh and Bianca Jagger.
