STEVEN OSBORNE PIANO / ALBAN GERHARDT CELLO

DEBUSSY Cello Sonata
SCHNITTKE Cello Sonata
MESSIAEN ‘Louange à l’Éternité de Jésus’ from Quatuor pour la fin du temps
BEETHOVEN Cello Sonata in C Op 102 No 1, Cello Sonata in D Op 102 No 2
BBC Music Magazine March 2015 ’20 unmissable events’ for the month: ‘Hot on the heels of a Wigmore Hall Performance the night before, cellist Alban Gerhardt and pianist Steven Osborne revisit an enterprising programme that pairs sonatas by Debussey and Schnittke with the two cello sonata swansongs of Beethoven’s Op 102. Also included is the haunting Louange a l’Eternite de Jesus from Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time.’
Two of today’s most accomplished musicians come together for a powerful and wide-ranging programme contrasting radiant lyricism with dramatic intensity. Both Gerhardt and Osborne are noted especially for their poetic insights and whenever the music turns introspective they can cast a spell that has you hanging on to their every note.
‘Gerhardt and Osborne are perfectly attuned to the music’s nuances and expressive gestures.’ ArkivMusic
